The Salt Cellar Youth Project was conceived by Rev Peter Sowler, Peter Lees and David Saville in late 1998. David Saville was appointed to lead the project and in November '98 he invited 40 youth workers from across Oldham to a meeting to share the vision for the SCYP. In Jan '99 the first event was held entitled 'Discovering Jesus', and the project played a big part in 'Message 2000'.
Over the years, the SCYP has developed its work to include a variety of activities. In 2001 links were developed with The PAIS Project and many yound people have worked with the project since that time.
In October 2008 David Saville left the SCYP to take up a new appointment and Leonie Flinders was appointed as Project Leader. The Project continues to play a most valuable role in the lives of many young people in Oldham and the surrounding area.
